Those of us who are familiar with glass processing experts will know Mika Eronen – from Pilkington to Glassrobots and then to the founding of SGE, and at all the major trade fairs and conferences around the globe with his studies, paper and presentations on glass processing. After the collapse of SGE, he seemed to disappear from the radar but he’s now back and willing to share his wealth of experience and advice to those who recognize and need this important information.

Hi there Mika, we at Glass-Technology International (and the flat and auto glass community) have known you for quite a few years now, since you started in the glass industry at Pilkington Finland in 1999. Tell us about your other activities during these years.
Mika Eronen: First of all thank you for this opportunity to be featured in your magazine. Regarding ”being known” in the safety glass community I am sure for some people it’s been overwhelming. Early in SGE I was faced with some arrogant comments, but I never take these types of comments personally – people are free to have their opinions. Many glass industry people were feeling desperate in 2009 and 2010 when the industry was going through a rough time.
This set-up has since changed and for the last years of SGE, glass industry people from all levels came to see me at industry fairs and conferences and said: “at last I get to meet the famous Mika Eronen” and sometimes referred to me as “superstar” because of what I was doing. Of course, I was very successful, and it felt good and made me understand that what I was aiming for is reachable and I had all the cards in my hands to win the business. But I prefer to hear people saying: “you are great in what you do”, and for this I want to say we are all human under the same sky.
