ICG's Summer School will take place 2-6 July, in Montpellier. This year's event will have the title ‘Glasses: formation, structure and strength'.
From Monday 2 July to Friday 6 July, attendees at the School will have the chance to listen to presentations from speakers such as: K. Bange; Y. Bao; R. Conradt; L. Cormier; J. Deubener; M. George; R. Hand; B. Hehlen; J. Parker; J. Qui; T. Rouxel; A. Takada; R. Vacher.
Topics will include: Glass forming ability; Structure of glasses; Glass colour and redox chemistry; Applications of glass and importance of surfaces; Key issues in glass science; Nanoindentation, surface hydration and glass composition; Glass corrosion at crack tip; The atomic structure of glass; Improving glass strength; Mechanical properties of glass; Chemical durability and waste disposal; Liquid-liquid phase separation; Functionalization of glass through crystallization; Glass ceramics; Making stained glasses by ion exchange; Methods of characterisation of glass surfaces; Atomistic Simulations of glass structure; Chemical aspects of glass structure; Vibrations in Glasses; Scattering light spectroscopies; Calculating phase equilibria; Calculating Raman activity.
Friday will be a day of student presentations, followed by, in the afternoon, the awarding of prizes.
