Helios Italquartz has become one of the leading companies worldwide in the glass market for the supply of IR quartz emitters
Helios Italquartz is a family based company which has, since 1940, been studying, prototyping and producing infrared quartz emitters, ultraviolet lamps, quartz glass items (secondary processing) and scientific apparatus.
Helios Italquartz has become one of the leading companies worldwide in the glass market for the supply of IR quartz emitters in short-, medium- and fast medium wavelength; float glass tin side detectors both in manual and automatic option; UV lamps and apparatus for the polymerization (curing) of glues, inks, varnishes, enamels and resins that react with UV light.
Infrared emitters heat up material through radiation, therefore the process takes place in a direct way and with high efficacy. Moreover, according to the material to be heated, different IR wavelengths can be chosen in order to reach maximum energy propagation and obtain heating in a faster and more efficient way. Furthermore, thanks to short on/off response time, these emitters enable to obtain very precise regulations that can be adjusted according to the different needs of the materials involved in the process.
Applying a special reflector directly on the quartz tube enables to better convey and focus all energy emitted by the lamp on the material, and Helios Italquartz offers the possibility to apply a gold, white or ruby reflector.

Infrared Quartz Emitters
IR Halogen Quartz Emitters
IR halogen radiation is positioned in the 0.9-1.1 µm range, and has considerably high heating power and very fast on/off response time.
IR Fast Medium Wave Quartz Emitters
IR Fast Medium Wave radiation is positioned in the range of 1.4-1.6 µm. This emitter is the optimal compromise when a specific application requires IR radiation of Medium Wave emitters and fast response time in the switching on/off of Short Wave emitters at the same time.
It is available in twin tubes up to 6.5 meters long.
IR Short Wave Quartz Emitters
IR Short Wave radiation is positioned in the range of 1.1-1.4 µm. This emitter is characterized by high heating power and is particularly recommended in those cases where it is important to have fast switching on/off response time. It is available in twin tubes up to 6.5 meters long.
IR Medium Wave Quartz Emitters
IR Medium Wave radiation is positioned in the 2.2-3.2 µm range. This emitter is particularly suitable for the fast heating of surface parts or thin thickness materials. It is available in twin tube up to 6.5 meters long.
Float Glass Tin Side Detector Analyzer
Glass plates obtained by float processes normally have one clean side (air side) and one side covered by a tin film. When the glass needs to be used for silvering processes in mirror production, laminated glass production, glass screen printing processes, glass to glass and glass to metal bonding, and artistic decoration, the float glass air side must be identified to obtain better adherence to the glass surface.
Helios Italquartz has developed and tested, together with the main glassmakers, manual and automatic tin side detectors. These types of apparatus are fundamental for car windscreen production, for household appliance glass such as traditional and microwave oven glass, and for low-E glass production.
Helios Italquartz’ apparatus are professional, entirely manufactured in-house and for which spare part service is guaranteed.
Both manual and automatic options are able to detect the tin side of dark non-reflective glass as well as extra clear and low-E glass.
The automatic tin side detector can be installed directly on the glass transportation line, usually positioned after the washing machine, and in any case before the beginning of the production process. It is equipped with a free contact that can be interfaced with the production line software enabling constant production control.
Polymer equipment
Helios Italquartz’ UV polymerization equipment is particularly useful for general polymerization processes such as drying films of reactive inks, lacquers and paints; bonding glass to glass, glass to metal with reactive adhesives. It is entirely manufactured in-house, with spare parts service guaranteed.
The company’s UV polymerization equipment product range is made up of two basic instruments of 400 and 500 Watt, 230 Volt single-phase.
Helios Italquartz Technical Department can also design, on specific request, UV systems with different wavelengths, in lengths of up to 2.5 meters, for the polymerization of windscreens, rear windows or decoration of large glass sheets.
Applications
Drying screen printing and coating curing
Helios Italquartz products find their ideal use in the drying screen printing processes of auto-motive and household appliance glasses, as well as in the curing of decorative glass coatings.
In particular, applications include:
Laminated glass production and processing
Laminated glass is a special glass made of two or more glass plates with PVB interlayers.
In order to obtain optimum laminating, the float glass air-side surface must be in contact with the PVB layer, checking the glass with the Tin Side Analyzer. Of course, in case of laminated glass with more than two glass plates, it is impossible to have the air-side continuously in contact with the PVB foil.
IR Medium Wave emitters are particularly indicated for the heating of PVB during lamination processes.
Helios Italquartz’ IR Medium Wave emitters ensure high performance, especially appreciated by worldwide leading companies in the manufacture of laminations furnaces.
The company’s Fast Medium Wave emitters are used in laminated glass cutting machines, thanks to their fast on/off response time.
Mirror production
IR quartz emitters are used in mirror production lines for glass preheating before the silvering process and after, in furnaces, for the curing of coatings.
Glass bending and fusion
In glass bending and glass fusion processes, IR quartz emitters are chosen more and more often as heat generators. They provide shorter heating times and, therefore, considerable energy savings; they guarantee high quality output; thanks to homogeneous heating, the glass is not affected by thermal stress; their simple installation enable easy and fast maintenance; furthermore, they grant precise regulation of temperatures in the different zones of the furnace.
Glass annealing processes
After glass modelling processes, in order to avoid stress and breakage, the glass needs to be cooled down in a controlled way; for this process it is possible to use Helios Italquartz’ IR quartz emitters which, thanks to their ease-of-control, provide smooth control of the desired temperature profile.
Vacuum processes
Helios Italquartz IR quartz emitters can be specifically designed for use in vacuum chambers, such as, for example, in thin film solar cell production, as well as during the preheating process before the coating of low-E glass.
Helios

In particular, applications include:
- float glass tin side detection using the Tin Detector Analyzer. In fact, if coating or screen printing is applied on the glass surface in contact with the tin, the output product will not be conform to the specifics, and will have defects that can also appear after production;
- the use of infrared emitters, if compared to traditional heating processes such as hot air, ceramic rods, gas, enable to speed up the process, improving output quality and reducing energy consumption since they emit a higher quantity of energy per unit surface and have a shorter on/off response time that allow heating only when and where it is really necessary;
- the use of UV lamps and polymer equipment for the polymerization of inks, lacquers and paints that react with UV light.
