Vidromecanica: focussing on new creations and improvements
Founded in 1984 by António Barreto, today Vidromecanica remains a family run business – located in Marinha Grande, Portugal, working for the glass container and tableware sectors.
More than 30 years of experience, all machinery manufactured in-house and worldwide partnerships. This all amounts to important and competitive advantages, which Vidromecanica exploits to the full when supplying its clients with equipment.
Today, the company has customers around the world and provides a wide range of glass equipment, as well as manufacturing technology and high-tech machinery.
The fact that its equipment is produced in-house at its facilities, where it uses the most accurate production and quality control methods, is one of the most important and competitive advantages of Vidromecanica.
Vidromecanica has been involved in the manufacture and supply of thermal and coating treatment equipment and other products for the glass industry for more than 30 years. During this time, there have been increasing demands and Vidromecanica has continued to work closely with hot- and cold-end engineers with a view to improving the process and performance.
Vidromecanica serves the container, tableware and stemware markets as the glass industries it most commonly deals with.

The company is, and always has been, focussed on new realizations and improvements of the following equipment:
• annealing and decorating lehrs;
• belt tempering lines for tableware;
• spindle toughening lines for stemware;
• chemical tempering ovens;
• roller annealing lehrs for flat glass/U-glass/laminated glass;
• thermal shock test systems;
• mould pre-heating kilns;
• stackers + cross conveyors + ware transfers;
• hot end coating hoods;
• cold end coating spraying equipment;
• scraper conveyors and cullet crushers.
As a global player and technology expert in glass engineering, Vidromecanica is continuously working to create win-win situations for itself and its customers, helping them reach goals faster and more efficiently.
Producing global solutions for the glass industry, more than simple equipment or services in the mechanics area, is the main purpose of Vidromecanica’s pioneering project. It defines the means to reach its goals. It encourages team spirit, where each and every member gives and receives, teaches and learns, develops talents and shares qualities. Indispensably, the team is the main active part and the company’s most valuable asset. Personal fulfilment is a common aim at Vidromecanica.
The company’s goals are a global and individual priority and are the two basic conditions for total management quality. The quality of Vidromecanica’s equipment and services is the basis of a solid and enduring relationship.
It will continue this improvement by taking positive steps in its quest for excellence every day, in which each and every member plays an important part.
Quality Management
In the late 1990s, Vidromecanica established a Quality Management System to control its order fulfilment process: specifying, designing, building, testing, shipping, installing, and commissioning. Suppliers were included in the quality management by means of detailed technical specifications, goods inspections, and supplier assessments.
A successful independent audit is carried out to certify the Quality Management System twice a year. The company is certified according to EN ISO 9001:2008. Vidromecanica intranet gives employees access at any time to procedures and documents of the Quality Management System. This ease of access helps make the system effective and has become a framework for continuous improvements, and quality has become an integral part of each activity within the company.
To this day, Vidromecanica is not content with just toeing the line. It has always striven to introduce new improvements and look to the future with confidence. This way of thinking has produced results that have a good strong impact on the world of glass. It is this quest for perfection that the company defines as its strategy for total management quality to come closer to excellence.
Complete expansion
Even with the recent global financial recession, Vidromecanica proceeded with an expansion project, motivated by the need to keep up with increasing number of clients.
The expansion is part of the company’s plan to develop new machines for high-speed production. The new builds are an extension of the existing unit. Two of the three new builds increase the assembly area. The other one is more for storage of materials and finished equipment waiting for collection. The total cost of this project (land, buildings and tooling) is high but the money is considered to be well spent because of the extra space to increase the production capacity. The expansion means new employment opportunities and Vidromecanica will continue the policy of employment in the next years.
Customer satisfaction
Vidromecanica wants its customers to be totally satisfied. That is why the export company Glassmechanics was created in 2013, for the export of equipment manufactured by Vidromecanica in Portugal. The company provides a worldwide presence to keep pace with the international expansion of its customers and meet customer needs. This partnership is to guarantee supply of high performance equipment, as well as optimal solutions to reduce not only investment costs but also operating and maintenance expenses for production lines. Both companies focus on customers’ plans and ideas right from the start and are engaged in the development of made-to-measure machines to satisfy the customers’ needs.
Both companies:
• focus on the customer’s plans and ideas right from the start;
• make its know-how available, and work out a concept with the customer;
• make efficiency and economy the objective of any machine design;
• propose the optimal combination of components for each application;
• guarantee superior technology and quality standards;
• ensure worldwide availability of service;
• are always prepared to customize a machine whatever the specification;
• have established a reputation in the market for fair price-performance ratios;
• perceive continuity as mutually beneficial.
If you want to walk on new paths, you have to consciously exceed limits. Break through familiar thought patterns to come up with new solutions, taking into consideration the knowledge and experience that has accumulated over the years. This approach will give rise to a new way of looking at things, to continuous progress and trust. Just like a partner, Vidromecanica wants to continue exchanging ideas, opinions and experiences with its customers in the future. So that it will continue to be a driving force of progress and one of the leading companies in hollow, tableware and flat glass around the world.
