OCMI Group has continued to improve and expand its presence in the worldwide market in both pharmaceutical and tableware divisions
OCMI Group has, in this past year, continued to improve and expand its presence in the worldwide market in both pharmaceutical and tableware divisions. In fact, thanks to the high quality of its complete glass processing lines for the production of pharmaceutical and cosmetic containers from glass tubes, OCMI is well-known by the most important glassmakers worldwide.
Accuracy in details and synergy with its sister company MT Forni, through the brand AMIG, enable OCMI Group to offer high quality complete turnkey factories for the production of tableware articles and technical glass products such as high tension insulators and glass bricks.
Pharmaceutical: Supplying to and partnering with medical glass factories
After celebrating the 1,000th MM30 ampoule forming machine produced at the Moderne Mecanique plant in late 2011, OCMI Group did not slow down its activity and, on the contrary, worked to consolidate its relationship with the most important manufacturers of tubular containers worldwide by offering new solutions to increase production margins and carefully control the final quality of glass products.
Optistem
Optistem II is the new camera quality control system to be installed on the FA36S forming machines by OCMI and MM30 machines by Moderne Mecanique. By checking the heating value of each glass tube with the first camera, the system enables the self-regulation of oxygen level in the two final heating burners before the forming station.
In this way, all stems can be shaped under the same glass conditions. The second camera carries out a dimensional control of all sizes except for total length and bad ampoules are automatically rejected.
The main advantage of the Optistem II is the possibility to check and correct forming during the cycle, improving the productivity of the forming machine.
Optivial
OCMI applies the same system for dimensional control of vials through Optivial. This control system works with one camera installed before the exit of the FLA20 or FLA35 forming machines, enabling to check all main sizes of the vial (except for total length) and to display them on a separated control panel using the same user-friendly software of Optistem II.
PM-A
With regards to quality and productivity improvement, OCMI has introduced the new automatic ampoules PM-A Packing Machine suitable to be connected with after-forming lines by Moderne Mecanique or different suppliers.
The control system of this machine enables to control the missing unit and ensures the same number of ampoules in all boxes without leaving empty spaces.
Ampoules are picked with vacuum cups and automatically positioned in the boxes waiting on the rotating table without any friction between units. Thanks to PM-A machine the operator no longer needs to stay constantly at the packing station but can go to check other operations along the line before unloading boxes.
The configuration of the packing machine can be arranged according to the layout of the factory and to the type of production line of the customer.
Gas Hood
The last – but not least – important development, in chronological order, is the Gas Hood for annealing lehrs, which is totally interchangeable with traditional electric ones installed on Moderne Mecanique lines. The most important technical feature of this new device is surely the quartz glass covering the gas burners in order to separate the combustion area and avoid any contamination of the ampoules.
Gas powered lehrs are actually a highly requested device in countries suffering considerable costs with regards to electric supply. The Gas Hood has been tested and approved by OCMI customers before being launched on the market.
Further requests coming from the market have being evaluated by OCMI and Moderne Mecanique Technical Departments in order to elaborate new developments and strictly follow market evolutions.
OCMI India
Particularly in such a strategic area as the Far East, OCMI wants to be able to satisfy the needs of glass factories in terms of quality and punctuality in after-sales assistance. The founding of OCMI India in Ahmenabad is a major part of this plan.
In India and bordering countries, where skilled operators for continuous rotary forming machines are not so easily found, OCMI India can offer a simple and efficient index forming machine for vials - TAM16. This machine is a typical vials index forming machine with 16 stations for tube forming and 8 stations for bottom finishing, with the ability to process maximum diameters of 50 millimetres in the special version.
Apart from production, OCMI India personnel are also available for installations, overhauls, maintenance and assistance on ampoules lines from OCMI and Moderne Mecanique. And for these operations, Indian operators are continuously in touch with the Italian and French facilities of OCMI Group for periodical training on European technology.
Fifty per cent of OCMI manpower is dedicated to assistance and quality control and the three plants located in Italy, France and India, together with the established dealer network, enable to assist customers worldwide and to interact with production managers regarding any type of issue.
Tableware and technical glass: AMIG and MT Forni - turnkey glass factories and engineering
OCMI’s know-how in glass forming is not only limited to glass tube processing. Together with MT Forni Industriali, a supplier of a wide range of equipment for glassmakers, from batch plants to packaging, with more than 40 years experience, OCMI Group is able to study, develop and offer turnkey factories for the production of tableware articles and technical glass products such as high tension insulators or glass bricks.
Located close to Venice, MT Forni Industriali is particularly specialized in equipment for glass preparation such as batch plants, melting furnaces (day tanks or continuous type), forehearths, batch chargers and heat recuperators and glass finishing equipments as well as annealing and decoration lehrs, bending furnaces, tempering lines.
MT Forni can also supply conveyors and devices for the transfer of glass items from one machine to the next.
Glass furnaces can be gas fuelled or electric powered according to customer’s needs and can be developed to process several types of glass. Continuous melting furnaces can pull a maximum of 50 tons per day while day tank furnaces have a daily capacity of between 50 and 4,000 kilos.
Annealing and decoration lehrs, with belts up to four metres wide, for hollowware, tableware, special glass, etc., have main features such as automatic temperature control system, optimized insulation for very low energy consumption, temperature uniformity, modular design and zero maintenance.
With regards to the forming process, OCMI is specialized in the production of semiautomatic and automatic presses for tumblers, insulators, bricks, lighting ware glass, 9- and 12-station press-blow jugs forming machines, up to 18-station spinning machines for large size articles.
Complete glass factories have been supplied by OCMI and MT Forni Industriali, under the brand AMIG, for the production of glass bricks and high tension glass insulators in Europe, the Middle East and China.
For the forming process, the company supplies PAS9 and PAS12 completely renovated jug forming machines respectively with 9 and 12 stations, which were the biggest news in 2012.
OCMI introduced the Torque Motor as an option for machine driving systems to obtain much better precision of index times and stops and an important productivity increase due to the reduction of machines-stops for maintenance operations. The pressing system is available in both pneumatic or hydraulic version with pressing force of up to three tons.
The considerable experience of MT Forni in lehr development can represent a really important support for OCMI in the pharmaceutical sector too, and was particularly true in the launch of the Gas Powered Hood for ampoule annealing lehrs. The separated combustion chamber covered with special quartz glass in order to protect the ampoules from any contamination risk, and the linked seeking of best raw materials, was carried out by OCMI with the assistance of MT Forni Industriali.
In both the pharmaceutical and tableware sector, the Technical Department of OCMI Group remains at customers’ disposal for any kind of support in terms of engineering know-how and after-sales service on site.
Apart from equipment quality and performance, this is another of the OCMI’s strong points, making it the most reliable partner worldwide for the supply of glass processing solutions.
